Brake Components Selection Guide
Brake components work as a system, therefore it's important to select the right combination of parts for your vehicle based on model year and type of brakes. The guide below assumes U.S. spec vehicle.

'71 and later FJ40 converted to front disc, but retains rear drums:
- Master cylinder - Either of Option A or Option B
- Brake booster
- Proportioning valve - OEM style or Wildwood Adjustable Valve
- Front disc pads - Depends on conversion
- Wheel Cylinders - See above based on model year
'71 and later FJ40 converted to 4 wheel disc brakes:
- Master cylinder (Notice orientation of brake line ports)
- Brake booster
- Proportioning valve - Wildwood Adjustable Valve
- Disc pads - Depends on conversion
* If you want to add a brake booster to a '70 and earlier or non-US FJ40 without an existing booster, you must first undertake a booster conversion. There are 2 known methods to achieve this:
- Use an adapter. This will entail lengthening the booster rod on the cabin side to compensate for the extended distance
- Modify the firewall
